Here’s a quick list of the achievements and honours I have received over the course of my career:
- 2024
– As part of the Reuters team, I received the SOPA Carlos Tejada Award for Excellence in Investigative Reporting for our report on the deaths of many young children in Gambia due to medical poisoning by faulty cough syrups. Our work also exposed the regulatory lapses in Gambia as well as in India, where we traced the pharmaceutical manufacturers responsible for the manufacturing of the lethal syrups.
– I am now a Chevening alumnus for completing the Chevening South Asia Journalism Fellowship (SAJP). - 2023 – I was part of the Reuters team that won the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism for our coverage of the aftermath of the COVID-19 outbreak in India
- 2022 – I received the SOPA Award for Environment Reporting as part of a five-member team of reporters including Joe Brock, John Geddie, Valerie Volcovic, Yuddh Chaya Budhiman and yours truly. Here’s what the judges had to say:
The reporting team expertly peels back the veneer of sustainability around efforts by the plastics and consumer goods industries to do anything but commit to cutting back on plastic manufacturing and usage. The breadth of reporting here, from Boise to Singapore, Varanasi, and Jakarta, and interviewing everybody from municipal officials, fire safety inspectors, neighbouring tenants, and company representatives both sheepish and bold, make for an extremely compelling series that adds another facet to the conversation around greenwashing. - 2021 – I received the SAJA Health Journalism Award for extensively reporting on COVID-19
- 2017 – I received the Lorenzo Natali Grand Prize in the professional category for this story of mine: a profile on the life of an adolescent girl living on the streets in India
